We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and our accreditation to BS EN 14001 is testament to our commitment.
We acknowledge that we are only ‘borrowing’ the land whilst we operate the quarry and that we rightly have a responsibility to restore the site. We have done much to show that we are a caring and responsible company, and this extends to not only what happens whilst we are quarrying a site but also includes our commitments to sensitive and appropriate restoration of worked out sites, and their aftercare.
Given that the Cavenham site was once predominantly a military airfield it is easy to see that the improvements that we have made do nothing but good for the environment. The quality of the restoration has been recognised with various parts of the site being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Special Protection Area (SPA) and as County Wildlife Sites. In addition, we have won Restoration Awards, from what is now the Mineral Products Association, for the quality of restoration of 26 hectares at Cavenham and for the work that we did at our former quarry at Fornham Park.
At Cavenham we have very good relationships with both the RSPB and Natural England, where a large part of the excavated area has now been restored to heathland, becoming a haven for wildlife and nature conservation.
