At Allen Newport we take our obligations towards the environment very seriously. We have done much to show that we are a caring and responsible company, and this extends to not only what happens whilst we are quarrying a site but also includes our commitments to sensitive and appropriate restoration of worked out sites, and their after-care.
In 1996 we won a Restoration Award from what is now the Mineral Products Association for the quality of restoration at our former quarry at Fornham Park and we followed that up with a further award for the restoration of 26 hectares at Cavenham in 2001
We have very good relationships with both the RSPB and Natural England at Cavenham, where a large part of the excavated area has now been restored to heathland for the purposes of nature conservation, to encourage flora and fauna, which favour this habitat.
Given that this site was once predominantly a military airfield it is easy to see that the improvements that we have made do nothing but good for the environment. This quality of the restoration has been further recognised with various parts of the site being designated as SSSI, SAC, SPA and as County Wildlife Sites.
